Our structure is very simple:

At our three nursery locations we can currently offer space for children between 10 months and 3 years of age. In the Methfessel Street we can accommodate 26 children and in the Methfessel Street 49 we have room for 24 children, which we split up into two groups of 12 each. In Steenwisch 25 we can take 30 children, again split up into to equal groups of 15 each.

Both locations dispose of quiet and green inner courtyards with play equipment so the children can give in to their urge for exercise and action.

The daily routine in the nursery has a clear structure and is easily understandable. In contrast to the elementary section we serve lunch at 11 am already and the tea break already takes place at 3 pm. For children, who stay with us a little later, there is an additional tea break at 5 pm. The little tummies are not yet used to long periods of time with no food. We are happy to adapt to that.

With optimal care taking and a clear structure, no day is ever the same. Depending on the season but also from a pedagogical standpoint, our pedagogues are always planning new things. Some of the activities are obligatory, others are voluntary, some include extra costs, others are all inclusive. We always make sure that the educational activities are diverse and that your child is not overwhelmed so that there is always enough time for playing freely.

Some examples of the running Bengel & Engel educational activities (please see for more information „Thematic priority“): the day in the forest, cross-generational singing with professional seniors, English lessons, exercise time in the gym of Grün-Weiß Eimsbüttel, cooking with a star-chef, playing harp, theatre, creative handicrafts, visiting the playground in the area and and and. Bengel & Engel also offers English language instruction. Interested children can approach their first second language in small groups for 30 minutes per week. Of course we are not attempting biligualism.

Even in the kitchen, fun plays a major role: once a week an alternating small group of children prepares the breakfast for the whole group for the following day. Then they are stirring, cutting and snipping until they have red cheeks.

The thematic priority at the elementary section in Stellinger Weg 49a and in the nursery Methfessel Street 78 is „Body, Movement and Health“. This is one of the seven educational sections recommended by Hamburg’s Office for Social Issues and Family. The ongoing educational programmes at Bengel & Engel match this recommendation perfectly.

As the first Kita in Hamburg since 2007, Bengel & Engel focuses in the nursery Steenwisch 25 ist thematic priority on „music“. This is an exciting enhancement of the educational programmes and the furthernance of the children.

At the nursery Methfessel Street 49 children particulary engage in „fine arts“ and are able to integrate the other educational programmes creatively.

During the first six years of their lives, children are extremely curious and can’t get enough of learning and understanding the world. People are never again so capable of learning as in this time. The Bengel & Engel team is aware of that and offers – in an already familiar environment – a seperate pre-school support for 2,5 hours per week over the course of the year before the children start school. An experienced pre-school pedagogue is responsible for their supervision. This is a meaningful complement to our educational work in the elementary section and the children can experience a smooth transition from the Kita to the elementary school.

Although children receive one year of special preparation for the transition from day care into elementary school, it still is a profound step in the life of every child. Therefore, the Bengel & Engel team cooperates with a variety of different elementary schools in your neighbourhood to guarantee an easy transition for each child. We offer school presentations, we invite representatives of different elementary schools to come and visit Bengel & Engel, our staff visits elementary school classes and we send our pre-school kids to visit possible future elementary schools. This cooperation mainly pursues one goal: We want to optimally prepare you for your new role as a “parent of a child in elementary school” and want to offer you means to appropriately and successfully accompany your child on its new stage of life.
